The Poet and the Playgirl
Ann Frick Vernon’s The Poet and the Playgirl began in the 70s as a suite of 10 drawings. In the 80s or 90s, she returned to the same theme in 6 large paintings, all acrylics on canvas. Together, these drawings and paintings portray the tumult of the familial and professional lives of a painter and her writer husband, each trying to work in the chaos around them. They are also wild and hyper-kinetic reports on the life of a woman artist. The 10 drawings and the first 4 of the paintings are in the permanent collection of the Manetti Shrem Museum on the campus of the University of California at Davis, and are available for loan to galleries, museums, and other art centers.
